Lesson Wednesday

Welcome to your fourth day of Epicodus! Today's schedule will be fairly similar to Monday

Schedule

Once again, times are approximate.

6:00-6:15 pm: Standup

We'll meet using the same Google Meet link.

6:15 pm: Join Dev Team

After standup, you'll join your dev team. You'll have the same dev team all week. If you are having any issues with members of your dev team, please reach out to an instructor.

6:15-6:25 pm: Dev Team Standup Connectivity Debugging Session

Once again, we'll start with a connectivity debugging session. Is everyone able to access the video standup in Discord? If not, take a few minutes to make sure everyone is taking part. If this was a rough process yesterday, hopefully it will be smoother today. However, if you have recurring issues, we recommend reaching out to an instructor.

6:25-6:40 pm: Dev Team Standup

Use this time to talk about anything that came up yesterday - such as things you've learned or things that you find exciting or frustrating. This is also a great time to ask each other questions about any content that you might find confusing.

6:40-8:40 pm: Pair Programming

8:40-9:00 pm: Show and Tell Retrospective

From now on, every day at the end of class, you will meet with your dev team in Discord to discuss how the day went. While companies usually don't have daily retrospectives, this is a good practice for students to maximize learning and share work.

Here are potential topics to cover in the retrospective:

  • Show and tell: what did you create today? Share your screen and walkthrough your code.
  • What did you enjoy the most?
  • What is a bug you fixed? Share your screen and give a walkthrough.
  • What did you struggle with?
  • Share tips and resources you found useful.
  • Give shout-outs to anyone in your group who has helped you or that you appreciate in general.
  • Discuss what you want to do better next class session.

Fourth Day Expectations

Today we'll continue building on last week's concepts and learn some new ones as well.

  • CSS Styling
  • Debugging HTML and CSS
  • Git branching and merging
  • Deploying to GitHub Pages

You'll also have two brief homework assignments over this weekend as well: Reading about Markdown and practicing it yourself.

You will be required to add a CSS stylesheet, use Markdown in your README, and deploy your site to GitHub pages for independent code review at the end of Week 3 - and for future independent code reviews as well.
